How good was that? Jordan's Spieth's miracle chip at Whistling Straits

Throughout his career, Jordan Spieth has become famous for his remarkable powers of recovery. His miraculous shot on the 17th hole at Whistling Straits in 2021 during Friday’s foursomes is a perfect example.

Down a sheer bank and in thick rough on the left hand side of the green, it appeared Spieth had no chance of making clean contact let alone advancing the ball. “It was kind of one of those shots you practice as a kid for fun,” he said later. A wild swing sent the ball soaring into the air as the Texan stumbled backwards towards Lake Michigan. After what seemed like an age, the ball landed safely on the green and stopped 5ft away from the hole.

As a reminder, a Shot Quality score of 0 denotes the worst possible outcome, 100 represents the expected score of an average male tour player, and 200 represents statistical perfection, such as a hole in one or holing out from long distance.
